Stretching

First and foremost – what should all athletes do before going out there and engaging in major athletic activity?  STRETCH!!!  This is a weird one and seems strange to do with our pets, but we can teach them how to stretch.

Endurance

Work on endurance things with your dog – interval training is a great way to work on this, especially if you don’t have a lot of time.  Make sure to do the warm-up and cool-down sessions though!  You can even try stretching afterwards as that is never a bad idea!

Work on bursts of exercise after warming up.  These can be as simple as chasing a ball several times in a row to working on call backs and maybe adding in things like jump overs.

So, I did just keep this category to dogs – if you have the uber-athletic cat at home – send me a note as I am excited to hear about it!
